On Earth Day in April, we made a pledge not to buy new clothes for one year. This took us down a rabbit hole of discovery: how we could repair and re-invent the jeans, jackets, T-shirts and hoodies we already had.
The ancient Japanese art of Boro gave us our answer. Boro means rags. People who were considered lower-class citizens were not allowed to wear colourful clothing so they used the indigo plant to dye them blue. When a jacket was tattered, they would add another piece of fabric and repair it with Sashiko sewing
