We have joined the Wild Hopers. Positive news is often unreported or overshadowed by the constant drumbeat of gloom and doom in the mainstream media. So we are excited to discover the Wild Hope Project. It wants to:
# 1 Change the narrative from despair to HOPE by increasing awareness about how positive change is possible through local action.
# 2 Spotlight the people and organisations who are leading the way.
#3 Inspire further action by building a movement – a community of supporters as well as active participants who seek ways to improve biodiversity in their own regions.
Take New York Harbour for example:
Centuries of pollution have basically destroyed it, turning it into a virtual dead zone. But now, an ambitious restoration project is bringing it back to life. The possibility of a clean harbour is drawing together New Yorkers from all walks of life. Architects, restaurateurs, high school students and scientists are joining forces to bring back the OYSTER. This humble mollusk has a critical superpower—a single oyster can filter 12.5 gallons of dirty water a day. So one day the Big Apple could one day be called the Big Oyster.
