Do you know that all our photos, videos, emails and documents saved on the Cloud are costing our home planet, the Earth.

There are an extraordinary number of data centres around the world, designed to store our data and digital clutter. And they use vast amounts of power and water in the process.

The average UK phone user has 2,100 photos. Around a third of those are thought to be junk. And on a global scale, an eye-watering 10 trillion pictures are saved in the Cloud.

Ireland has 70 data centres and it is predicted that 30% of the country’s energy use will power data centres by 2030. (Source: BBC Panorama)

Apple and Meta’s claim to offset their carbon footprint is debatable. So, as consumers, we can help them with our own personal digital waste.

We think about what we eat, how we recycle and what we choose to buy and from where.

So….. by deleting anything we don’t even look at is a HUGE positive climate action.

By making a pledge to send 10 pictures a day from our phones to the bin, as well as unnecessary emails, we would begin to reset the damage.

Because ultimately the Cloud doesn’t live in a cloud.
