Calling all Earth Angels…

Change is closer than you think!

The most important climate solution is YOU.

Everyone of us has a unique and important contribution to make.

We can change the climate crisis story to one of HOPE and imagination.

If we ALL made simple lifestyle changes, the result would be HUGE for our home planet.

Project Drawdown has shown that one third of the solutions needed are at family and household level. Check out the world’s leading resource for climate solutions.

Let’s Ask Nature

It has all the solutions we need to live a healthy and sustainable life.

“We are surrounded by geniuses.”

These are the words of Janine Benyus, talking about nature. She is co-founder of Biomimicry 3.8.

There are living systems in nature which are 3.8 billion years in the making. If we see nature as our teacher and mentor we can find solutions to the climate challenges we face.

This is one of our favourite sites: innovation inspired by nature.

      Say No to

    Fast Fashion

100 billion items of clothing are produced each year. It is estimated that 85% of all textiles are thrown away every year.

The fashion industry uses a lot of water – approximately 93 billion cubic metres every year. It can take around 7,000 litres of water to produce one pair of denim jeans.

Washing some types of clothes releases microplastics.

Around 60% of clothes are made with plastic-based materials such as polyester or nylon. When we wash these types of clothes, they release microplastics which eventually make their way into rivers and seas.

Clothes can take up to 200 years to decompose

100% cotton clothing can break down as quickly as a week. However, clothes made of plastic-based materials do not break down easily.

Fast, cheap clothes mean poor working conditions for workers

Fast fashion is made by factory workers in developing countries like China and India. Often, working conditions are poor – meaning that there are low wages, poor safety rules, and long working hours.

We can all play our part in reducing the environmental impact of the fashion industry.

The ancient Japanese used Sashiko stitching to repair their clothes (see image above) to make sure they lasted as long as possible. Where possible, we can mend and repair our clothes for minor wear and tear, instead of buying new clothes.

Mending Life: A Handbook for Repairing Clothes and Hearts‘ is a beautiful book which is giving me inspiration.

And here are tips from Captain Forest on how to have a zero plastic wardrobe.

https://www.captainforest.com/ten-secrets-for-a-zero-plastic-wardrobe/

A plastic alternative is possible, if we ask Nature.

In the meantime…

Kids Against Plastic (KAP) aims to help young people (and not so young people) to learn about environmental issues such as plastic pollution and the Climate Crisis.

Through free resources, initiatives and the awesome KAP Club, they try to inspire and empower others into action.

Reduce Food Waste

One easy way to help our home planet is to reduce our food waste. It produces toxic methane and carbon emissions. Here are some disturbing stats:

# It is estimated that one third is thrown away in the world.

# 4.5 million potatoes are discarded each week in the UK.

# 490 million pints of milk are poured down the drain in the UK every year. Poor cows. All that work for nothing. And think of all the plastic containers as well.

But Food Cloud is showing us a new way. It is a non-profit, social enterprise which redirects surplus food to charities and community groups who need it.

FoodCloud: Food waste hurts our planet

Our blog shows imaginative young people who are social entrepreneurs.

Look at Nature and you will see a world

brimming with amazing engineers.

How can a beetle help us to collect

fresh water in the desert?

How can a spider show us how to create

a natural silk fabric?

There are valuable lessons to learn from Nature

and discover a new way of living.

If you care about the natural world and our home planet, you are

an Earth Angel.

So you may be interested in our book on your own Guardian Angel.

You may not see them but we all have a Guardian Angel.

Whoever you are, wherever you are, you have an angel walking beside you.

If you are worried or scared, if you are lonely or bullied, they are always listening.

Perhaps you need ideas or inspiration or healing to make you feel better.

Learn how to be aware of your Guardian Angel’s presence and you will know how much you are loved and supported.

Rainbow Bridge

There is a bridge connecting us with our animal friends, when they fall asleep for the last time.

It leads to a haven of flowering meadows, hills and valleys with lush, green grass.

There is healthy food, sparkling clean water and soothing sunshine.

Elderly and frail animals are young again.

Injured animals are whole again.

They run, play and have fun together on  Rainbow Bridge.

A place made from LOVE

A picture book for any age.
